Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) Studio is a free, open-source broadcasting system for video recording and live streaming. To use OBS Studio to broadcast on Halogen, follow the steps below.

Install and set up OBS

OBS software can be downloaded from https://obsproject.com. After you've installed it, you'll need to configure it to run with Halogen.
  1. Run OBS Studio
  2. Specify a video source, if you haven't yet. See the OBS Studio documentation if you need help with this step.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. On the Output tab, set the Output Mode to Advanced, and the Keyframe Interval to 2.
  5. On the Stream tab, set the Stream Type to Custom Streaming Server. If you have any more questions about settings, please see our recommended settings support article.
  6. Click OK on the Settings window to save your changes.

That's it! Now you're configured to broadcast with Halogen.

Broadcast on Halogen

Make sure you have OBS running, and then open the Halogen website.

  1. Click the Go Live button to open the broadcasting page.
  2. Enter your broadcast information:
    1. Description (required) - Describe your video, using up to 100 characters.
    2. Location - Share where you are broadcasting from.
    3. Cost - To charge for the video, enter a price.
    4. Promoter Share - If you're charging for the video, you can give a percentage of its price to users who promote you. Enter that percentage as the promoter share.
    5. Cover Photo - Upload an image that will introduce and highlight your broadcast.
  3. Click the Start Broadcast button. You'll see a Set Up Encoder pop-up. Notice the Server URL and Stream Key? You need to enter those in OBS. Here's how:
    1. Click the Copy button next to the Server URL field.
    2. Without closing the Halogen web page, switch to OBS Studio.
    3. Click Settings in OBS Studio
    4. Select the Output tab of OBS Studio's Settings window.
    5. In the URL field, paste the Server URL you copied earlier.
    6. Switch back to Halogen, and click the copy button next to the Stream Key.
    7. Switch back to OBS Studio and paste the Stream Key you just copied into the Stream key field.
  4. Now, you're ready to stream. Click OK to save the settings in OBS Studio.
  5. Click Start Streaming in OBS Studio to go live!
  6. The Halogen web site will detect that you're streaming, and the broadcast interface will update to allow you to chat with your viewers, see the gifts and tips you're receiving, and more.
  7. When you’re ready to stop broadcasting, click the End Broadcast button in Halogen, and then click the Stop Streaming button in OBS Studio.

This looks like a lot of steps, but once you've done it a couple times, they go very quickly.
Have fun live streaming!
