Is there anything I can do to improve my download speeds?

The biggest influence on download speeds is your Usenet plan. If you're not on an Unlimited plan we suggest considering a plan upgrade. We also have a few additional tips on how you can improve your download speeds overall:

  • Turn your router or modem off for 30 seconds and then back on.

  • Firewall and antivirus software take up processing time, temporarily turn these off.

  • Are you using all the connections (also called threads or bots) in your plan? Check your newsreader settings.

  • Check to be sure that your internet connection is as fast as it should be with a speed test at www.speedtest.net

  • Newsreaders that run multiple operations at the same time (downloading, repairing, unpacking, etc.) can experience slowdowns. Limit simultaneous operations.

  • Check for other running programs that may be taking up too much of your internet connection or computing power.

  • Is anyone else using your internet connection?

  • Is your account being used by others?

  • Is your ISP experiencing downtime or is in the middle of maintenance?

  • Also note that use of a VPN may slow down your download speed.
