What are ports and how do I set specific ones?

A port is simply a point of communication from one computer to another. In this case to your newsreader. Most newsreaders will allow you to specify specific ports by number.

Additionally some of these ports are encrypted for additional protection. You will see those listed as SSL ports. Please note that while they are more secure, it does come with a slight processing overhead. If you’re using an SSL port and are experiencing slow speeds you may try a non-SSL port.

The following ports are available for news.tweaknews.eu:

  • 119 (default)

  • 20
