Newsleecher Tips and Tricks

If you are not experiencing the download speeds expected please try adjusting the following settings:

  1. Use a wired network connection, not wireless wherever possible.

  2. To access the advanced settings inside Newsleecher click on: Toolbox->Settings. This will launch the Advanced Settings window.

    1. Click on View Advanced Settings to continue.

  3. This will open a complete list of settings for Newsleecher, we will list specific settings to adjust below.

  4. Destination Folders Settings

    1. Saving files to a NAS (networked storage) or HDD storage device will take longer than writing to a local SDD hard drive will. Review and update your destination folder settings here.

  5. Download

    1. For users who have a set internet connection speed, specifying that speed in the download section of advanced settings may open up additional processing power for Newsleecer to work with posts.

    2. For users who download many small articles, moving those to the top of your queue may speed up downloads. You can select this option and set the article size limit here.

    3. Download Scheduler

      1. If you run automation or have data caps set by time of day you can schedule Newsleecher access here.

  6. Group Browsing

    1. While Group Browsing settings may not speed up downloads these settings may improve your Usenet experience. Set these to your preferred settings.

  7. Interface

    1. You can set Newsleecher to auto connect at launch with the Launch Settings checkbox.

  8. NZB Files

    1. You can specify a NZB watch folder with the Auto Import Scanner setting. Any NZBs you upload to this location will automatically be added to Newsleecher.

  9. Repair / Extract

    1. On slower or older computers you may want to activate the Postpone RAR Extraction While Downloading checkbox. This will prevent your computer from doing both processes simultaneously which may improve your download speeds.

Please note that due to differences in hardware, software and network you may need to adjust multiple settings to find the best combination for your setup.
